Quick Actions

Rapidly capture tasks, notes, files, and bookmarks without leaving your current context.

What Are Quick Actions?

Quick Actions let you quickly add items to your default project from anywhere in Para, including the dashboard.

Setting Your Default Project

Before using Quick Actions, set a default project:

  1. Click your account name in the navbar
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Find Default project
  4. Select a project from the dropdown
  5. Save

Tip: Choose your most active project as the default.

Using Quick Actions

From the Dashboard

On the main dashboard:

  1. Find the Quick Actions buttons
  2. Click Task, Note, File, or URL
  3. Fill in the quick form
  4. Submit

Quick Task

  1. Click the Task button
  2. Enter a task title
  3. Press Enter or click Submit
  4. Task is created in your default project

Quick Note

  1. Click the Note button
  2. Enter a note title
  3. Optionally add content
  4. Submit
  5. Note is created in your default project

Quick File

  1. Click the File button
  2. Choose a file from your computer
  3. Optionally add a name
  4. Submit
  5. File is uploaded to your default project

Quick Bookmark

  1. Click the URL button
  2. Paste the URL you want to save
  3. Optionally add a title
  4. Submit
  5. Bookmark is created in your default project
  6. Page metadata is fetched automatically in the background

Choosing a Different Project

Quick Actions default to your default project, but you can choose another:

  1. Open a Quick Action form
  2. Click the project dropdown
  3. Select a different project
  4. Submit

Command Palette Alternative

Use the command palette for quick creation:

  1. Press Cmd+P (or Ctrl+P)
  2. Type new task, new note, or upload file
  3. Select the command
  4. You'll be taken to the creation form

When to Use Quick Actions

Use Quick Actions When

  • Capturing a quick thought
  • Adding a task you just remembered
  • Uploading a file you just received
  • Speed is more important than detail

Use Regular Forms When

  • Adding detailed descriptions
  • Setting due dates and priorities
  • Adding multiple items
  • Need subtasks or other advanced features

Tips for Quick Actions

  1. Keep defaults current - Review your default project regularly
  2. Refine later - Quick capture, then add details when you have time
  3. Use the keyboard - Cmd+P for faster access
  4. Review daily - Check what you quickly added

Quick Action Confirmations

After using a Quick Action:
- A flash message confirms success
- The item is created in the selected project
- A journal entry is created automatically

Mobile Usage

Quick Actions work on mobile:
- Buttons are touch-friendly
- File upload uses device file picker
- Forms are optimized for small screens
