Journal

The Journal automatically tracks activity in your projects and allows manual entries for notes and updates.

Automatic Entries

Para automatically creates journal entries for:

Action Entry Type
Create a task Task Created
Complete a task Task Completed
Change task status Task Moved
Create a note Note Created

Recurring task created Recurring Task Created

Entry Details

Each automatic entry includes:
- Timestamp
- Action type
- Item name
- Link to the item

Manual Entries

Add your own journal entries for:
- Daily standup notes
- Progress updates
- Blockers and issues
- Ideas and observations
- Meeting summaries

Creating Manual Entries

  1. Navigate to a Project
  2. Click the Dashboard tab
  3. Click Add Entry in the Journal section
  4. Write your entry
  5. Click Create

Manual Entry Tips

  • Keep entries concise
  • Include relevant context
  • Reference related tasks or notes
  • Use for daily reflections

Journal Location

The journal appears in two places:

Project Dashboard

Each project's Dashboard tab shows:
- Recent journal entries for that project
- Paginated view for older entries
- "Add Entry" button

Global Dashboard

Your main dashboard shows recent activity across all projects.

Reading the Journal

Entry Format

Each entry displays:
- Icon - Type indicator
- Message - What happened
- Timestamp - When it happened
- Project context - (on global dashboard)

Entry Types

Icon Type Description
📝 Manual User-written entry
Task Created New task added
☑️ Task Completed Task marked done
🔄 Task Moved Status changed
📄 Note Created New note added
📎 File Uploaded New file added
🔁 Recurring Task Auto-created from recurring task

Collaboration and Notifications

When collaborating on a project:
- All collaborators' actions are logged
- Journal entries show who performed each action
- Notifications are sent for important activities

Using the Journal Effectively

Daily Review

  1. Open your project's Dashboard
  2. Review the journal from the past day
  3. Note progress and blockers
  4. Plan next actions

Project History

The journal serves as a complete history of your project:
- Track when work was done
- See who did what (in shared projects)
- Reference past decisions
- Understand project timeline

Team Communication

In shared projects, the journal:
- Keeps everyone informed
- Reduces need for status meetings
- Creates accountability
- Provides context for new collaborators

Editing Entries

You can edit manual journal entries inline:

  1. Find the entry in the journal
  2. Click the edit button (pencil icon) next to the entry
  3. Modify the text in the inline editor
  4. Click Save to update, or Cancel to discard changes

Note: Only manual entries can be edited. Automatic entries are read-only.

Deleting Entries

You can delete manual journal entries:

  1. Find the entry in the journal
  2. Click the delete button (trash icon)
  3. Confirm deletion

Note: Automatic entries cannot be deleted.

Best Practices

  1. Write daily summaries - What did you accomplish?
  2. Document decisions - Why did you choose this approach?
  3. Note blockers early - Don't wait until it's a crisis
  4. Reference related items - Link to tasks, notes, or files
  5. Be concise - One paragraph per entry
